The undergraduate chapter successfully hosted the 2022 BMS Banquet last Friday for an audience of finalists, guests, alumni, undergraduate brothers, and HQ staff. A theme of “Oh the Places You’ll Go!” drew parallels of the journey finalists are beginning in their collegiate careers (and a nod to Dr. Seuss, a fellow SigEp). All twelve finalists received a copy of the book and received a personalized introductions of their accomplishments written by the chapter based on their application and interview processes. Hovorka Atrium was decorated with SigEp flags, centerpieces and balloons to set the stage for Henry White, our regional director, and Grant Pignatiello, our chapter’s Faculty Fellow, to give speeches that tied together the values of SigEp, stories from their SigEp experience, and advice for the finalists.
The chapter awarded $2,500 in scholarships, divided between four winning finalists. These scholarships were made possible by Ohio Sigma alumni donations towards the BMS Scholarship Fund. The resumes for each finalist were impressive and the chapter is working diligently as part of continual recruitment to convert them to brothers.
As an alumnus in attendance, I was impressed by what the chapter put together and the event exceeded all of my expectations. What was clear to me was that this undergraduate chapter consists of a group of young men who are virtuous, diligent and share a strong bond of brotherhood. To make the event a success, they invested hours into its preparation and execution to ensure it was successful. The entire experience reinforced and reinvigorated the strong feelings of pride I have in being a SigEp myself.
